Nashville and the NWTF Convention

Here's the lineup. These are the calls Ammon has been working on for the past few months getting ready for the call making com-petition at the NWTF (National Wild turkey Federation) Convention. He has work hard and they are beautiful!
We arrived in Nashville on Wed, Feb 8th. Ammon and I were sweating the plane ride, but Hyrum did really well. First stop, the Opryland Hotel. It was amazing. We dropped off the calls and found out there were 540 hunting calls entered! That's a lot of calls! Here's Ammon and Hyrum next to his two slate calls.
We spent a few hours each day at the convention walking around the many booths, going to seminars, and listening to the calling competition. It was pretty cool to be a part of. I guess on Saturday alone there was supposed to be about 20,000 people walking around. I got a kick out of all these rednecks (note: this term is used affectionately) walking around this fancy hotel wearing camo while the air was filled with the sound of hundreds of turkey and other wild game calls. One of the highlights was meeting the Primos guys. They were great! After watching hours of the Truth (Turkey hunting videos), it was pretty neat to chat with the guys we see in the videos.
Ammon said he was most excited to meet Jimmy, Will Primos' brother. This was after the Primos seminar. Hyrum liked him too!
We didn't win this year, but we had a great time and learned a lot. I'm so proud of Ammon. Of course I'm not biased at all :) but I think his calls are amazing. It was fun to be there after watching Ammon go through the process of making his calls. Seeing how much work and effort he put into them really gave me an appreciation of what the other calls makers are doing.
